How We Build

The code got cheaper. Judgment did not.

AI made familiar development work faster. Good. We rebuilt our process around that fact and pass the gain forward.

Senior engineers still decide what matters, review what changes, prove that it works, and own the deliverables.

RW-01 / What changed

What actually changed

AI is good at bounded, familiar development work.

Tracing a bug through a stack. Generating test coverage. Porting a theme. Writing a well-understood module. Comparing implementations. Finding the one place a change is likely to break something else.

That does not make proof less important. It makes proof more important. Code is easier to produce, so the job shifts toward deciding what should exist, testing it properly, and knowing when it is ready.

We use the first advantage to give you more of the second.

This also changes the economics of owning your platform. Upgrades, patches, integrations, and QA were historically the tax on open-source commerce. Those are exactly the kinds of structured, testable tasks AI can accelerate.

Owning your stack is no longer automatically the expensive choice.

RW-02 / The process

The loop

01

Decide

People choose what matters next, informed by what is actually happening in your store. Not opinions. Not whoever spoke last in the meeting.

02

Build

AI helps us investigate, draft, compare, and move faster. Senior engineers remain accountable for every change that is delivered.

03

Prove

Every change goes through regression, security, and performance checks.

On one client store, that means 124 granular tests distilled into 38 curated cases, running against production behind three independent safety layers.

The suite can test most of the buying journey automatically, catching issues that previously would only have been discovered during manual testing. However, it does not replace the need for a real end-to-end purchase. A real order is always placed as the final validation step before anything is considered complete. Automation reduces risk and surface area; it does not remove the responsibility to confirm the full commercial flow works in reality.

04

Measure

Did the number move? Analytics, search data, performance, and real store behavior close the loop and inform what happens next.

RW-03 / Instrumentation

What sits beneath the work

01 / Internal

ecomUX

Our internal commerce experience and analytics system. Regression coverage, performance budgets, and the store’s real numbers, analyzed and scrutinized in one place.

02 / Open source

OpenSEO

Continuous search and answer-engine visibility. Not a quarterly audit that becomes a PDF nobody opens again. Rocket Web is a contributor to this powerful open source tool. Learn more at openseo.so.

03 / Self-hosted

Plausible

Clean, privacy-respecting measurement without the third-party cookie sprawl. Learn more at plausible.io.

Together, these systems mean a change is never merely delivered. It is tested, watched, and judged by whether it improved something you care about.

RW-04 / Human judgment

What AI did not change

Judgment.

Taste.

Architecture.

Knowing what not to build.

Knowing which requirement will quietly break the project six months from now.

Standing behind the decision when something matters at 2 a.m.

AI can accelerate a strong team. It cannot make a weak team accountable.

Machines run the tests. People make the calls.

GS / Applied AI

Where Guidance Systems fits

Rocket Web applies these methods to commerce platforms. Guidance Systems takes them into the rest of the business.

It is our applied AI practice for operational systems, knowledge, research, decision support, internal tools, and business-specific problems that extend beyond the store.

What we learn there sharpens how we build here.

What this does to our prices

Cheaper routine work is one reason our care plans start at $3,500 a month and why each plan can deliver more than it did a year ago.

The pricing is published. So is the reasoning.
